In 2019, main contractor Skanska delivered a major project for Great Ormond Street Hospital: the new Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children. With 13,000 m2 of floor space, 500 researchers, clinicians and health professionals now work in this facility, where 200 outpatients are seen daily.

The new research centre has more than 160 lab bench positions, 21 consultation rooms and 8 clinical investigation rooms. DMC was asked to provide durable, easy-to-maintain flooring that would stand up to the demands of clinical trials and experiments – and which wouldn’t easily collect dirt and dust.

We solved this by installing an in-situ resin floor by Flowcrete. This was coupled with an underlying heavy-duty K-Screed and underfloor heating. The resin surface, with its seamless appearance, was perfect for this project, while resin was also used to develop pre-cast treads and risers for staircases and atrium coping stones.

If you would like to learn more about this state-of-the-art project, please get in touch. We’d be very happy to tell you more and advise you on any similar proposals you may have.
